The housekeepers were bustling about as I walked into the living room . Overnight , the house had been cleaned and reorganized . Monochrome furniture filled the entire house . The adorable bunny - shaped dining chair had been placed by the door . My rabbit - shaped slippers and pink rug had been thrown into the trash . The pink roses I'd tended for so long were just beginning to form their first buds , but they had been thrown to the ground and trampled into pulp . Once , we were at a party where people were talking about how roses symbolized love .
I didn't understand back then , but Zachary said that if I could make pink roses bloom this season , he would marry me . Now , they were completely ruined . I knelt down and picked them up . My heart ached , and tears kept falling . I didn't even notice when Zachary came downstairs . He looked at me . " It's just a bunch of roses . What's with all the crying ? " Just get someone to order fresh ones . " " These are different , " I responded . When my mother was on her deathbed , she told me to marry Zachary and live a happy life .
Otherwise , she would keep worrying about me , even after she was gone . I made sure to listen to her . If I ruined things , Zachary wouldn't want to marry me . " Stop crying , " he said , feeling somewhat irritated . He didn't like me crying . I held back my tears , but I still felt very sad . Just then , Jessica came downstairs too . " I'm sorry , Ree . I didn't know everything was yours . 0.0 % 21:49 玆 were told ch I hated the color pink , so he switched everything out . I hope I haven't caused much trouble . " Imed to shop myself from choking on my sobe this " But he is our home .
" I sand . Zachary used to be fine with anything I picked out What was with the sudden change ? He frowned at the " It's pretty inconvenient for Jessie to stay at the hotel , so she'll be living with us for a while . Ree , stop making a fuss . " I didn't quite understand how I was making a fuss , but I knew that this place no longer felt like home . Furious , I wanted to go upstairs and hide in my bedroom , just like I always had But when I opened the door , even my room was different . Not a single rabbit plush remained , and everything was covered in blue , my least favorite color .
I stepped back in shock Zachary supported me from behind . " Jessie wants to be closer to me , so you'll take the room downstairs . " He added . " I'll only be for two months . Behave , and I'll get you any dolls you want . " I looked at him as tears welled in my eyes . " Why here , of all places ? " Zachary owned plenty of houses , so why couldn't she move in elsewhere ? Though I was confused , something in me clicked . Zachary left me alone last night so he could move my things out to make room for Jessica . He didn't pick me up because he was afraid I'd cause a scene .
At once , I pushed Zachary away . " You're so mean , Zach ! " I hid in a small room on the first floor , my belongings strewn everywhere . I sat on a cardboard box while hugging my big rabbit plush , crying until I was covered in sweat . Even after searching the room , I couldn't find the white rabbit plush from my mother , or the ceramic doll my father had made just for me . They were all packed in a single box , so I went upstairs and knocked on the door . When Zachary finally answered , my anxiety had already spiraled out of control . " Zach , my parents ' things are miss- ing .
I'd like to go in and have a look . " He blocked my path . 37.49 % 21.49 Chapter 2 F " You can't just go into someone else's room , you know . " I looked at him , confused . Why could they enter mine without permission , then ? He stood in the doorway , tall and unmoving . " Call me a nice guy , and I'll let you in . " After a brief pause , I said , " You're a nice guy , Zach . " Zachary relaxed his brows and was about to let me in . All of a sudden , something shattered inside the room . A dark wooden box fell to the floor , and the ceramic dolls inside lay broken in pieces .
